Frequently asked
The questions that come up most often about carrying OYA day to day.
Do I have to unlock my phone to use OYA?
No. OYA pairs to your phone over Bluetooth, so pulling the handle sets everything off on the spot, with nothing to unlock and no app to open. Your phone only needs to sit within Bluetooth range for the SOS call and the location message to your contacts.
What if I pull the handle by mistake?
With the loop pushed down, OYA sits idle: the alarm only fires once you pull the loop firmly all the way up, which no amount of jostling in a bag will do. If it ever does go off, push the loop back down and it stops at once.
Does OYA run without my phone?
It does. The 130 dB alarm and the flashlight run entirely on their own: no phone, no app, no signal. Pair a phone once when you want OYA to trigger its native SOS call and send your position to your emergency contacts.
Why does OYA cost more than a budget alarm?
A budget alarm makes a noise, and so does OYA, at 130 dB measured at 30 cm. The difference is what comes with it: paired with your phone, it triggers the phone’s native SOS, which calls for help and sends your position to the people close to you. On top of that come 14 days to change your mind, a two year legal guarantee and dispatch from France, with free delivery. No subscription is added later.
Does an alarm help if nobody reacts?
It does not promise that passers-by will come running. What it produces is attention: a quiet scene turns loud, and a few seconds of hesitation give you time to get away. If your phone is paired, emergency services and your contacts are alerted at the same moment. OYA adds a layer of safety without replacing 112.
Where should I carry OYA to have it at hand?
On the keyring you already take with you: your keys are in your hand at the moment you get home. OYA weighs 65 g and clips on with its gold clip, supplied in the box. At the bottom of a bag it would take longer to reach.
Do I need to buy more than one?
No, one is enough. Bundles are there to equip the people close to you as well: buy several and each one costs less, with the price worked out for you as you choose.
Is pepper spray not more effective?
It asks something else of you: reaching it, aiming it, and not having it taken off you. Carrying it is also restricted, or banned, depending on the country. OYA asks for one movement, hurts nobody and falls under no carrying rule.
What drives OYA
Why we made OYA and what we hold to.
Why OYA?
Where others ask you to install an app, create an account or pay monthly, OYA starts with one object and the SOS your phone already has. No subscription, no OYA account, no data routed through us: one pull makes noise, calls for help and sends your position to the people you chose.
Who is OYA for?
For anyone who sometimes travels, walks, trains, studies or works on their own, late at night or in places they do not know well. If you have ever wished for a bit more reassurance on the way home, it was made for you.
When should I reach for OYA?
Whenever you feel unsafe or face immediate danger. It exists to turn heads and bring people to your side quickly. It adds a layer of safety rather than replacing the emergency services, so call 112 as well whenever you can.
Do I need to download anything?
No. There is nothing from OYA to wait for or install. Pair the device over Bluetooth, turn on Emergency SOS on your phone and add your emergency contacts there. After that, one pull uses the phone’s native SOS to call the local emergency number and send your position to those contacts.
If it is not right for you
14-day returns, refunds and EU cancellation, all handled at contact@oya-alert.com.
Can I send OYA back if it does not suit me?
Yes. You have 14 days from the day the parcel lands to tell us, then 14 more to send it back. You are free to unpack OYA and try it, exactly as you would in a shop. Write to contact@oya-alert.com first and we will get it moving.
How do I open a return?
Send your order details to contact@oya-alert.com and we will take you through the next steps. Writing first is a courtesy rather than a condition: it spares your parcel a detour. Returns go to: SIBULCOD, 6 allée du Ruisseau de Ribbes, 69160 Tassin-la-Demi-Lune, France.
Who pays for return postage?
Return postage is on you, unless the parcel arrived damaged or faulty.
When does the refund land?
The money goes back to the payment method you used within 14 days of the day you told us you were returning the order. Nothing arrived after that? Write to contact@oya-alert.com and we will chase it up.
I am in the EU. Is there a cooling-off period?
Yes. Ordering from the EU, you have 14 days from receiving the parcel to cancel without giving any reason, and 14 more to send it back. Get in touch at contact@oya-alert.com and we will arrange it.
Is there anything that cannot come back?
A short list of things cannot be returned, for reasons of hygiene, safety or law:
- Custom or personalised products
- Personal care and hygiene items
- Hazardous materials, flammable liquids or gases
My OYA turned up damaged or faulty, what now?
Tell us the moment you notice. Send your order number to contact@oya-alert.com with a photo if you can manage one, and we will arrange a replacement or a refund straight away.
If something breaks
Replacements, proof of purchase and the ways to reach us.
How long is the warranty?
Two years from delivery: that is the legal guarantee of conformity, on top of which come the guarantee against hidden defects and our own warranty on materials and manufacturing. None of them costs you anything.
What does the warranty cover?
Anything traceable to materials or manufacturing. If your device has a fault that does not come from wear, an accident or misuse, we replace it.
How do I ask for a warranty replacement?
Write to contact@oya-alert.com with your order number and a few words about what is happening. Photos or a short video help a great deal. We take it from there.
Is proof of purchase needed?
Yes, though a confirmation email, a receipt or an order number is enough to start.
How do I get in touch?
contact@oya-alert.com is the quickest route to the team. You can also message us on Instagram or TikTok (@oya.alert).
Who sells OYA?
SIBULCOD, which designs OYA in France and ships it from Tassin-la-Demi-Lune, near Lyon. Its SIRET number and full details are in the legal notice, and contact@oya-alert.com will answer you.
Is there a minimum age to buy OYA?
To place an order you must have reached the age of majority in your country, or hold the consent of a parent or guardian. Younger people are welcome to carry OYA once a guardian agrees.
How loud, how long, how heavy
Loudness, battery, water and range.
How loud does OYA get?
The alarm hits 130 dB, roughly a jet engine heard from close range. The sharpness is deliberate: enough to throw someone off nearby and to pull eyes from the far side of a street, a platform or a car park.
How long does a charge last?
The battery runs the siren for around 90 minutes without stopping on a full charge, and the device lasts about six months of use between charges. It recharges over USB-C with the cable in the box, so make charging it part of the same routine as the device you carry every day.
Can OYA handle water?
No. OYA is not waterproof and carries no ingress protection rating. Keep it away from water, and if it does get wet, dry it before charging it again.
What is the Bluetooth range?
Somewhere around 10 to 15 metres, depending on what is around you. If your phone drifts out of range the alarm still sounds; only the location alerts wait for Bluetooth to reconnect.
Is 130 dB dangerous for the ears?
It is a very loud sound, to keep away from ears. Set OYA off at arm’s length, never against an ear, yours or anyone else’s, and keep it out of reach of young children, who can set it off on their own.
Am I allowed to carry OYA?
Yes. A personal alarm makes a sound and is not a weapon in any European Union country: no permit, no registration and no minimum age to buy or carry one. On a plane it travels in the cabin and never in the hold, because of its lithium battery.
No app to install
OYA uses your phone’s native SOS once you have paired it.
How does the emergency call work with no app?
OYA pairs over Bluetooth. When you pull the loop, your phone receives the signal and its native SOS dials the emergency number for the country you are in.
How do my contacts get my position?
They are the emergency contacts stored on your phone. When the phone’s SOS runs, it can send them a message with your position, depending on the settings you turned on.
Do I need to download anything to stay protected?
No. The alarm and flashlight work offline, and the SOS call and location message use your phone’s own emergency settings. There is no account, subscription or extra install.
Does OYA work with my phone?
OYA pairs over Bluetooth and relies on the emergency call built into the phone, with no app. The setup guide covers iPhone and Android, screen by screen. Without a phone, the alarm and the flashlight work anyway.
Is setting up the SOS complicated?
You do it once. You pair OYA over Bluetooth, turn on the phone’s emergency call, then choose who to alert. The setup guide shows every screen, on iPhone as on Android.
When it arrives
Costs, manufacturing and the journey to your door.
What does shipping cost?
Delivery is free, with no minimum order, to every country we serve. Nothing is added at the last step.
What does a pre-order mean for me?
It means the device has not been built yet and you are reserving one from the coming batch. Payment is taken in full when you order, the estimated dispatch date sits on the product page, and you may cancel for a full refund at any point before the parcel goes out by writing to contact@oya-alert.com. Your 14 days to change your mind start the day it lands, not the day you ordered, and if we miss the dispatch date the Shipping & Returns page sets out how to cancel and be refunded.
How soon does my order leave?
Orders are packed and sent out from France, and the delivery estimate for your destination shows at checkout. The moment your parcel is on the road, a tracking email lets you follow it to your door.
Is payment secure?
Yes. Payment is handled by our payment provider, never by us: your card details do not reach us.
Where are your products made?
OYA is drawn up in France and shipped from France. Assembly itself is handled by a partner factory abroad, and every device is finished then checked before it leaves.
Who can see where you are
Who sees your position, what we gather, and the control you keep.
Who gets to see where I am?
Only the trusted contacts you picked, and only while an alert is running. Nothing is followed in the background: your position stays yours until you choose to send it out, and it is never sold or turned into advertising.
Can the police see my position when I call?
Yes. On a call to 112, your position reaches the emergency services on its own so operators can find you quickly. They can confirm it with you and ring back if the line drops.
What does OYA gather, and what for?
We gather what it takes to get your order to your door and answer you: contact and delivery details, payment information handled by our provider, order history and support messages. It goes towards filling orders, returns, support, site security and, only where you asked for it, sending you news by email.
Do you sell my data?
No. We never sell personal data and never turn it into advertising, and this site runs no advertising cookie and no third-party tracker. Your details reach only the parties an order needs: our payment provider, the carrier and our hosting provider, each bound to use them for nothing else.
How do I read, correct or erase my data?
Write to contact@oya-alert.com and we will help you read, correct, erase or export your personal information, or narrow the use we make of it, free of charge and within one month. Should our reply leave you unsatisfied, the CNIL is there for that. To stop marketing emails, the unsubscribe link at the foot of any message does the job.
